October 10, 2007I have just realised that I haven’t posted on this blog for a couple of months now, you may or may not be aware that Google recently penalized a bunch of directories including my own Biz-Dir, this has certainly been a big blow to the industry and many of the directories featured in this blog have been hit. I am currently dropping all of the paid links to my directory in an attempt to get back into Google’s good graces and once they are all gone I am going to try and get myself reinstated, I will let you know how it goes.
Killer Web Directory

I have just taken over a new directory (killerdirectory.com) the directory was launched in July of 2006 and has been tossed from pillar to post the poor little thing. It has built up quite a lot of natural links a long the way though and that is really what interested me in it. I have just had a custom design done and made a load of modifications to the script. The directory now has deep link options, SEO friendly detail page URLs and in a couple of weeks I am getting the pagination mod for it. Google doesn’t seem to like it very much at the moment, so I am going to be adding high quality sites and new links vigorously over the next few weeks, hopefully I will be able to get the Google bot hooked. I can’t honestly say that it is worth submitting to at the moment, but if you get in early you have more chance of ending up on the top hits page.

Genuine Paid Directory is ran by Syed Balkhi a professional web developer from the United States. He has obviously put a great deal of time into making sure that the directory looks the part and it ranks really high in the search engines as well. I submitted a bunch of sites a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed to see the listing pages indexed by Google and ranking high within a couple of days. This is one of the things that I look for in a directory and I will certainly be using it again. Regular listings come with 3 extra deep links are available for a minor $14.95, I recommend get yourself over there and submit. Also check out the webmaster blog where Syed blogs daily.

Directory Dump

Directory Dump web directory was started back in 2004 and was taken over by An0n in 2006. If you haven’t heard of him An0n is the man for directories and directory mods, he invented the deep link directory mod for PHPLD directories and has had a hand in making many of the best directories that are on the web today. The design of Directory Dump is awesome and the directory has tons of extra features including live stats (information about how many people have visited in the last 24 hours and the last month), page ranking mod (showing how many PageRank 1-10 websites are listed) and the latest relevant Yahoo news displayed on every page i.e. if you click onto the sports category page the latest sports news will be displayed a long with the directory listings. All of these extra mods will most definitely increase the value of directory, in addition Directory Dump is heavily marketed, has a lot of natural links and ranks on the 1st page of Google and Yahoo for the highly competitive phrase web directory. If you are serious about web marketing getting listed is definitely something you should do, prices start from as little as 24.99 a year.

New Directories Blog – Directory Kit
June 24, 2007Just been checking my sites for blog reactions on Technorati and a new directories blogger has added me to their blogroll. I had a good read of the blog and it is offering some great articles about to run directories, here are some of the posts that I have read and liked:

Link Book Web Directory was established as a free directory in August of last year and was taken over by eWebPages directory owner CReed in I am guessing March of this year. Since the directory has been taken over the traffic has gone through the roof and Link Book now has an Alexa ranking of less then 50,000 making it a great opportunity to get traffic and business. Directory-Owners.com offers a range resources for directory owners. Offered resources include interviews with directory owners, directory script articles and reviews, SEO articles and the directory owners forum. If you own a directory I recommend you get yourself over there and check it out, I particularly like the interviews with directory owners, it is really interesting to hear what the real pros have to say about their directories and the directory industry. Also get yourself registered at the forums and talk to other directory owners about directory issues, there is a real friendly atmosphere over there and I am sure they will welcome you with open arms.

Haabaa Website Directory was started back in 2003 making it one of the most established directories going. The directory has a totally unique design, structure and script as far as I can tell, this is good and it makes it stand out from the crowd. I think the design is really cool and there is a nifty little button so that you can view the directory with a red, white or blue background, I like blue best because it is my favorite colour. Haabaa is truly a worldwide website directory and it is really easy to find certain types of websites in specific countries and even different areas within the countries. As well as offering a directory Haabaa also offers a number of extra features, you can search the web, search for images, search for music or find out the latest gaming news. To top it off Haabaa ranks very nicely on Google and Yahoo for some big phrases so there is a good chance you will get some traffic from a listing. To get your site reviewed for inclusion it costs £30 a year for a regular listing or £50 a year for a sponsored listing, you will normally be listed in two or three different categories for this so it is a great deal, Haabaa also offers free listings however it can take up to 4 weeks before your site gets reviewed, you have a higher chance of getting included for free if you link back to Haabaa from a descent page.

Uncover the Net has been going since 2004, I recently submitted my SEO website to the directory and I was very impressed with the results, when I submit to directories I like to test them to see if they have link value, I decided to go for a commercial listing which cost me $79, with the commercial listing you get three extra links for the sub-pages of your site on your own detail page. Before I submitted to the directory my text links page had no optimisation for the phrase text link ads, I do not sell text links as such, I simply offer text links from directories, never the less people will search for this phrase and I am thinking perhaps I can talk them into directory listings once I get them in. I used the phrase text link ads as a link to my text links page for one of my sub-links, within less then a week Google had spidered my listing and my detail page had been indexed, I checked on UK only Google.co.uk and my text link page went straight in on the 1st page for the phrase text link ads, I was pleasently suprised that a single link from Uncover the Net with no mention of the phrase on-page had made the page rank on the 1st page of Google for a pretty competitive phase, I will be submiting all of my clients from now on. In conclusion if you are wanting to get better rankings in the search engines you should definitely submit, it will help, I would go for a commercial listing as well so that you get the three extra links for the sub-pages of your website.

Koollog Dir is a really cool free submit directory hosted on a site that is all about free stuff. There are lot’s of free submit directories out there but many of them are a complete waste of time, either your link will never get added or even if it does it will never get spidered by any search engines, Koollog Dir has the vast majority of it’s pages is indexed by Google, MSN and Yahoo so when you submit to Koollog Dir you will definitely get a quality link for your site (links are approved fast), I really like the design of the directory as well, the owner has obviously put alot of effort in to making sure that it looks the part, the categories are not to cluttered and it doesn’t link to any dodgy (bad neighborhood) sites, what are you waiting for? Go and submit now!

Biz Dir is my own SEO friendly directory, I launched the directory at the beginning of December last year, there are not very many sites listed at the moment and it still needs lot’s of work doing to it however the directory does get crawled regularly by Google, MSN and Yahoo and it has a good amount of backlinks. I am spending over $500 a month on advertising so $20 a year for a listing is really good value for money. I plan on re-vamping the directory in the next couple of weeks and adding some extra features to it.
